Lightning is still so new that its implementations are few and far between.

Before writing this post, I could only name a few other lightning-powered services or businesses.

This will change soon because lightning adoption is increasing at exponential speed. According to Jack Mallers, dozens of major American retailers will accept lightning payments before the end of this year.

But for now, it’s still relatively difficult to find ways to spend sats.

How do these types of lightning services strike you?

That’s why I put this list together. I wanted a single place to go for a collection of lightning projects that are representative of the current state of the lightning ecosystem before everything changes.

Feel free to leave more in the comments. I will maybe update this list overtime (don’t hold your breath though :p )

List of Lightning Projects

  • Pollo Feed
    • This is one of the oldest lightning projects out there. Anyone around in 2018 may remember when Pollo Feed briefly became popular. It’s still around, and it’s status as an OG lightning project has been fully cemented.
  • Lightning.store
    • A lightning store where you can buy bitcoin merch with sats
  • Satsledger.com
    • A fun book for kids to learn about bitcoin
  • Lightning.video
    • Lightning.video is a Pay per View video site with a ton of potential for future growth.
    • NSFW content, viewer discretion is advised
  • X Marks The Bitcoin
    • Real-world bitcoin treasure hunts.
    • Clues are for sale, and profits are put into the treasure wallet, so the value of the treasure increases overtime.
  • The Orange Pill App
    • Social networking for Bitcoiners!
    • Coming soon.
  • Wasbitcoinbringt.com
    • German bitcoin bookstore where you can buy classic bitcoin books with sats
  • Lightning Ventures
    • Investor group focusing on funding lightning projects
  • LNPay
    • Helping businesses integrate lightning payments into their payments systems
  • LNbits
    • Open source lighting payments platform with around a dozen widgets for a wide range of payments use cases

That’s all for now. It’s not much of a list, is it? Feel free to add more in the comments below.

I’m sure this is just scratching the surface of what is out there. But again – it’s not easy for someone who is entering the space for the first time to find lightning projects to spend sats on. Hopefully, that will change soon as lightning payments come to major retailers.

Until then, I will try to update it as the space grows but no promises.

Question: how long until I can shoot lightning payments out of my fingertips with a lightning-enable glove so I can be the bitcoin emperor Palpatine for my office’s Halloween work party this year?
